Autism Spectrum Disorder in Psychiatrically Referred Youth: An Update on Assessment and Management

Child and adolescent psychiatrists learn up-to-date information on the assessment and management of youth with autism spectrum disorder and related psychopathology through review of clinical research and the presentation of case vignettes. There is special emphasis on addressing the gender differences in clinical presentation, the burden of autistic traits in youth with ADHD, and the unique challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic. Updates include clinical presentation and screening, identification and management of frequently associated psychiatric disorders, and review of interventions, including parent-training approaches. Participants learn how to develop an appropriate multi-modal treatment plan encompassing psychoeducational, behavioral, and psychopharmacological therapeutic interventions; and better understand how to guide parents to facilitate appropriate treatment planning and management.
